Digital and Commercial Artist

I began my artistic career in the photographic industry as a studio photographer and master darkroom printer. I was driven to expand my artistic vocabulary in 1992 when a friend of mine exposed me to Photoshop. This was before most people knew what a jpeg was. Photoshop was a revelation to me, as important as the introduction of the metal paint tube was to the Impressionists. It would completely change the direction of my artistic goals and aspirations. Today my digital prowess is not limited to Photoshop, but also includes Illustrator.  Between the two I am able to indulge my artist desires that are often inspired by pattern, color, graffiti and street art.

Although the majority of my work is brought forth using digital means, I have not abandoned traditional methods. Some of my favorites include ink, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking, photography and spray paint. When the mood strikes or a project requires it, I scan hand-rendered elements into the computer and experiment marrying them with digitally created imagery.

I have found over the years that my artistic style and experimental nature have been beneficial in creating my personal and commercial work. I think in today’s day and age, the two are no longer mutually exclusive. I'm a happy to see to that my preferred medium is finally beginning to gain traction in the art world, but I still see a long road ahead.  I'm hoping that by continuing with my work that more boundaries will be broken.

One of the most satisfying use of my talents is when I have an opportunity to use my art to help raise money annually for causes close to my heart.  I've enjoyed donating my work to help benefit art education, Parkinson’s research, animal and wildlife protection.
